F. Collection of a claim

1. Following up a file

The moment you send us a collection file, it goes to Atradius Collections, our collection department. You will always receive a receipt stating the reference number.

Atradius Collections is present in more than 40 locations worldwide and has several cooperation agreements with external agents. This ensures that there is always an Atradius specialist acting on your behalf. Major strength is that they operate in or closest to your customer's region, speak the language, know local customs and are familiar with the legislation.

Thanks to the collection mandate (power of attorney) you provide us with by submitting the file, we can act on your behalf.

We will keep you updated on our actions, via Atrium (progress).

There are two phases in debt collection: amicable and judicial. During the first phase, we try to reach an amicable agreement with the debtor to pay the debt. The second phase is used if the first phase is unsuccessful.

  • Amicable phase
The amicable phase starts as soon as the collection transfer takes place. Atradius Collections immediately contacts your debtor to find a solution to pay the claim. No legal action is taken yet. The success of this phase depends on two elements: our responsiveness and the action chosen. The most appropriate procedure is applied to each case (by video mail, letter, telephone, an on-site visit, a repayment plan...).
  • Judicial phase
If the amicable phase is unsuccessful, Atradius Collections draws up a report of the actions taken and the results. Based on the quality of the file (amount of the claim, probability of success, cost of the legal proceedings...), the options are determined and, if necessary, legal proceedings are proposed.

collections-helena-engCollection can only be validly carried out on unpaid claims attributable to that one debtor. If a claim is disputed, deal with it first. After all, Atradius cannot judge whether a technical dispute is justified.
